Film Dump # 6

It has been a while since I last posted, but I do have some good ones to show you.
Now to explain my absence, the last couple weeks haven't been the best for me. I went through some personal stuff that put me out for a week, my mood has been extremely low and I got very very depressed. It brought back a lot of bad memories and insecurities that I thought I was able to get over. It'll take some time for me to get beck to the much happier state that I was in before when I was uploading regularly, but it's a journey that I feel like I need to take.

Today I have a roll of Harman Phoenix 200 and Kodak Porta 160 to show you. I will start off with the roll of Phoenix 200

The majority of this roll I shot at the marina in Santa Barbara, my favorite spot for photography as you can tell. I was pretty excited to see these small boats floating around in the marina. The boats were being manned by some kids, I think they were taking a sailing class or something and I thought it was pretty neat. It gave for some great different shapes for my usual compositions when I shoot around the marina.

I just love seeing the boats around, with all the colors to see. I feel like Phoenix 200 suits this location well. It give so much more character to the surroundings with its very dramatic colors, everything even slightly bright just pops.

I think I'm coming to like this film stock more, but if only I had my exposure settings right, the entire roll was underexposed which I'm not super happy about,

These are the first 2 shots I took on the roll. Went to my old Highschool's football game because my friend invited me to come and watch their brother play in the game with them. These 2 shots are super underexposed but I love how they turned out. The green of the field and the reds of the uniforms just stand out crazy cool.

The next is only a couple shots from a roll of Porta 160 I shot on my Yashica-A. This is the first time I shot Porta in over a year, they came out alright. Definitely not my favorite pictures that i took but i got a handful of stuff I really like.

Nothing really much to write home about, but I did try my best to meter with just my eyes. It was definitely hard to get everything right, especially in the darker areas, But it was a good experience. Shooting casually with the TLR is also a pretty fun time. I'd love to do it more, but unfortunately I cant afford to do it regularly.

We'll see how much more active I will be. There's only a couple weeks left in the school semester, and I'm gonna be fairly busy with finals. Hopefully I'll be able to shoot more afterwards during my winter break, and hopefully my mind will be able to rest by then too. Till next time!

Avo Fest

Today we have a very special post, my first proper attempt at mosh pit photography. This has always been a type of concert photography that I've always wanted to do and get into but was always too scared or just didn't know when there would be a show. But this year I knew where to go, The Carpinteria Annual Avocado Festival. This family friendly event is home to one of the most surprising free concerts that I love going to. The band that played is called "The Upbeat" and they are a favorite ska band of mine, the energy that they bring and the energy of the crowd is insane. So I came equipped with my Nikon 1 J1 with a 3D printed grip and an adapted 6mm security camera lens to take the pictures. Nikon 1 J1  - Rainbow H6mm f1.2 Nikon 1 J1  - Rainbow H6mm f1.2 This year had probably the best Upbeat show I attended. The crowd was jumping, the band was playing hard, and the mosh was getting pretty intense. Usually when The Upbeat plays at Avo Fest, it gets pretty lively and...

There's Goo Everywhere

So it's been a while since I last uploaded anything onto this blog, but I feel like I should continue on with this thing that I started. I guess now's a good time as any to start up again. This week we went to a local punk show hosted by local band Goo Spot, along with a newer band Corporate America. Set up at a newer bar called Union in the middle of downtown Santa Barbara.  Here is a full library of what I shot The crowd was so energetic, all these kids amped up to hear the local favorites, or even new favorites, tear up the place with that fast and loud sound. Pits opened up, they were moshing, skanking, slam dancing, jumping off a barrel, It was a great time. The show was fun time, and talking to everyone and getting all these photos was an even better of a time. With the opening of Union in Santa Barbara, I hope that the grassroots music scene of Santa Barbara will continue to thrive.

Film Dump #5

Welcome to the 5th film dump! This dump is from a couple days. First off would be a disc golf day with my family up in the bay area. We went to Kelly Park for the day to play a full round of disc golf. It was a nice bright day and there was a range on the course where I was able to throw one of my discs about 300 ft, which is pretty good for me at the time. I was equipped with my cousin's Minolta X700 and a roll of Kodak GT800 from a disposable camera. The light meter on the X700 was a bit faulty due to low battery so everything was manual exposure, which I think worked out pretty well. I was equipped with my trusty Nikon FG with a roll of Fujifilm 400. The first half of the roll was used at Santa Barbara City College and the Santa Barbara Marina. I absolutely love taking pictures at SBCC...
