Film Dump #4

So this post is pretty special, it's a bit short but its because the pictures in the posts are experiments. The first 3 are a test roll from my new main TLR camera, a Yashica-A that I got for waaaayyy cheap off craigslist. And the second is a roll of Harman Pheonix 200, a newer color filmstock that came out earlier this year I think. I hope you enjoy the few pictures that I took! Also a big ol message at the end of the post so make sure to read up on that!

So to start off, we have my "new" TLR, The Yashica-A. This is an entry level TLR that came out in the mid 50's. I was able to snag it on craigslist for $30 with its original leather case too! I was really happy with the condition of the camera and I had to take pictures with it right away. So I loaded a roll of TMax 100 and took it to the Santa Barbara Marina.

First picture I took is one of my favorites, and it was the first picture on the camera. I did load the film incorrectly so there is a light leak in the bottom of the picture.

This picture was pretty memorable because some older photographer came up to me and asked if I was shooting with a Rolliflex, as much as I'd like a Rolliflex, I gotta start somewhere. So that was a pretty fun thing.

Now for the Harman Phoenix 200. I went over to Santa Barbara City College to test out this new stock. I loaded the stock into my Nikon FG and just went for it.

I've seen some pictures with Phoenix 200 and I was kind of torn with liking and not liking it. It's such a dramatic looking film that suits simple and more "interesting" compositions. The colors on the film though is so dramatic and super punchy! Such an interesting look, I think this stock suits "Vintage California" vibes.

I'm pretty happy with what I was able to capture, I think next time I shoot with this stock I'm gonna try to over expose the film by 1 stop, and maybe I can get a much brighter and more lively image to suit the colors. I'm also going to try to shoot this film in Ventura, CA around the beach, because I feel like the colors and overall look of the film matches the vibes of the city.

I just dropped off 2 more mystery rolls of film I have stored up. I still have about 7 rolls of film I need to get developed, so film dumps will still be occurring throughout the rest of the year. To be honest, I will be taking a break from shooting film for a while, I just simply don't really have the funds to support going to go buy and develop film at the moment. BUT this doesn't mean I wont be shooting with a small variety of cameras like with my film! I ow have a small library of about 5 digital cameras that I will be shooting with for the rest of the year. I hope you guys have enjoyed my blog so far because I'm really having a lot of fun doing this! Thanks again Jakob for inspiring me to start up a photo blog!

Avo Fest

Today we have a very special post, my first proper attempt at mosh pit photography. This has always been a type of concert photography that I've always wanted to do and get into but was always too scared or just didn't know when there would be a show. But this year I knew where to go, The Carpinteria Annual Avocado Festival. This family friendly event is home to one of the most surprising free concerts that I love going to. The band that played is called "The Upbeat" and they are a favorite ska band of mine, the energy that they bring and the energy of the crowd is insane. So I came equipped with my Nikon 1 J1 with a 3D printed grip and an adapted 6mm security camera lens to take the pictures. Nikon 1 J1  - Rainbow H6mm f1.2 Nikon 1 J1  - Rainbow H6mm f1.2 This year had probably the best Upbeat show I attended. The crowd was jumping, the band was playing hard, and the mosh was getting pretty intense. Usually when The Upbeat plays at Avo Fest, it gets pretty lively and...

Film Dump #5

Welcome to the 5th film dump! This dump is from a couple days. First off would be a disc golf day with my family up in the bay area. We went to Kelly Park for the day to play a full round of disc golf. It was a nice bright day and there was a range on the course where I was able to throw one of my discs about 300 ft, which is pretty good for me at the time. I was equipped with my cousin's Minolta X700 and a roll of Kodak GT800 from a disposable camera. The light meter on the X700 was a bit faulty due to low battery so everything was manual exposure, which I think worked out pretty well. I was equipped with my trusty Nikon FG with a roll of Fujifilm 400. The first half of the roll was used at Santa Barbara City College and the Santa Barbara Marina. I absolutely love taking pictures at SBCC...

Film Dump #3

So for today's film dump consists of 2 different cameras. My super awesome and trusty Nikon N80, and a camera I don't have anymore, the Nikkormat FT2. Both days were just phot walk days with my friend Jakob Hammer. Shot some "street" and some other variety stuff. Fist off I'll show off the N80 pictures. I haven't used this camera in a while so I didn't expose some of the pictures properly, they are a bit under exposed but they do have a bit of a spooky look to them which I do really like.
