Monochrome Tests

So with this week's post I wasn't really looking to get any coherent theme or whatever, I kinda just went shooting just to shoot. I was using the X-Pro1 with the 28mm again, just trying to get good with this combo. So trying not to make this a picture dump post, I wanted to practice making a monochrome Adobe Lightroom preset. My main goal was to get something really striking and punchy, and I think i did well.

First couple shots are pretty much the "street photography" style that I shoot. I shot during the afternoon in direct sunlight and the last photo at a fair. Definitely a pretty punchy monochrome look, I feel like this look would do well when I'm shooting events or taking pictures of individuals in a crowd.

The next 2 pictures are portraits of me and my friend Jakob. Similar lighting for both pics, and honestly, the preset isn't super punchy and the skin tones are pretty nice. Definitely gonna try to do more portraits with this preset.

The rest are more architecture focused pictures. I really liked feel and deep shadows and empty spaces this preset makes with the shadows. It just looks super striking to me. This might be my go to preset when I want to shoot architecture.

Avo Fest

Today we have a very special post, my first proper attempt at mosh pit photography. This has always been a type of concert photography that I've always wanted to do and get into but was always too scared or just didn't know when there would be a show. But this year I knew where to go, The Carpinteria Annual Avocado Festival. This family friendly event is home to one of the most surprising free concerts that I love going to. The band that played is called "The Upbeat" and they are a favorite ska band of mine, the energy that they bring and the energy of the crowd is insane. So I came equipped with my Nikon 1 J1 with a 3D printed grip and an adapted 6mm security camera lens to take the pictures. Nikon 1 J1  - Rainbow H6mm f1.2 Nikon 1 J1  - Rainbow H6mm f1.2 This year had probably the best Upbeat show I attended. The crowd was jumping, the band was playing hard, and the mosh was getting pretty intense. Usually when The Upbeat plays at Avo Fest, it gets pretty lively and...

Film Dump #3

So for today's film dump consists of 2 different cameras. My super awesome and trusty Nikon N80, and a camera I don't have anymore, the Nikkormat FT2. Both days were just phot walk days with my friend Jakob Hammer. Shot some "street" and some other variety stuff. Fist off I'll show off the N80 pictures. I haven't used this camera in a while so I didn't expose some of the pictures properly, they are a bit under exposed but they do have a bit of a spooky look to them which I do really like. Film Dump #5

Welcome to the 5th film dump! This dump is from a couple days. First off would be a disc golf day with my family up in the bay area. We went to Kelly Park for the day to play a full round of disc golf. It was a nice bright day and there was a range on the course where I was able to throw one of my discs about 300 ft, which is pretty good for me at the time. I was equipped with my cousin's Minolta X700 and a roll of Kodak GT800 from a disposable camera. The light meter on the X700 was a bit faulty due to low battery so everything was manual exposure, which I think worked out pretty well. I was equipped with my trusty Nikon FG with a roll of Fujifilm 400. The first half of the roll was used at Santa Barbara City College and the Santa Barbara Marina. I absolutely love taking pictures at SBCC...
